How do I get a custom dog portrait made from my photo?
Pick your size, add it to cart, and upload one photo of your dog on this page. Our artists work from that photo to build the portrait, then email you a digital preview within 1–2 business days. Once you approve it, we print and frame it.
What kind of dog photo works best for a portrait?
A close-up taken at your dog's eye level, in daylight, with their ears, head and chest all in frame. Phone photos are fine — lighting and angle matter more than resolution. Avoid overhead shots, heavy filters, and photos where their face is in shadow. If your photo won't work, we'll email you before anything is printed.
Is this a hand-painted dog portrait or a print?
Printed. Your photo is turned into oil-painting-style artwork, then UV-printed directly onto the poplar wood panel — the look of a painting with the durability of a print. The matte panel finish is what makes it read as paint rather than photo paper. If you want a portrait an artist actually paints by hand, see our hand-painted pet portraits, which start at $69.
What size dog portrait should I choose?
7" × 7" suits a shelf, desk or gallery-wall cluster. 8" × 12" is the safe gift size and works on most narrow walls. 12" × 12" holds its own above a console or sideboard. 16" × 20" is the statement piece — hang it over a sofa or in an entryway where it's the first thing people see.
Does the dog portrait come framed and ready to hang?
Yes. Every size ships in a black wood frame with hanging hardware already installed on the back. Take it out of the box and put it on the wall.
Can you make a portrait of a dog who has passed away?
Yes, and it's one of the most common reasons people choose this style. An older or lower-resolution photo is often still workable — send what you have and we'll tell you honestly whether it will hold up at the size you want. Nothing is printed until you've approved the preview.
Can you put more than one dog in the same portrait?
Message us before ordering with the photos you have. Multi-dog portraits are handled case by case depending on the photos, and we'll confirm what's possible and what it costs first.
How long until my dog portrait arrives?
Roughly 1–3 weeks door to door: 1–2 business days for your preview, 3–5 business days to print and frame once you approve, then 5–15 business days in transit. If you need it for a specific date, message us before ordering.
How is this different from your other dog portrait styles?
This one is straight portraiture — your dog painted as they actually look, no costume. If you want more character, we also do vintage tweed, royal robes, gentleman and funny bathrobe versions on the same wood panel.
What if it arrives damaged?
Because each portrait is made to order, we don't accept returns for change of mind, but we'll gladly replace your order if it arrives damaged or has a quality issue.
